双层框架制动鼓是由制动鼓本体、螺旋加强筋或竖直加强筋及环形筋组成。在减少制动鼓本体壁厚基础上，在制动鼓表面设置螺旋加强筋筋或竖直加强筋，并在其外侧增加环形筋，保证环形加强筋与制动鼓本体之间6mm---10mm的间隙。
制动鼓使用过程中，温度升高到300℃，其机械性能下降明显，热疲劳一直是制动鼓的主要失效原因。为提高散热性，保证制动鼓机械性能前提下，增加制动鼓表面积。以300桥制动鼓为例，改进结构前制动鼓表面积是0.965平方米，改进后为1.264平方米，增加了31%，同时制动鼓鼓体壁厚减少，有利于热量的传出。
