经除尘、降温、脱焦油后的煤气从脱硫塔下部进入脱硫塔，与塔顶喷淋下来的脱硫溶液逆流接触，脱除煤气中的H2S。出脱硫塔的发生炉煤气经捕滴器分离后送出脱硫工段。吸收H2S后的脱硫富液，从脱硫塔底部排出后，进入富液槽。由再生泵升压，经喷射器喷入再生槽，在槽内进行再生。再生后的贫液经贫液槽和贫液泵送至脱硫塔。从喷射再生槽中浮出来的硫泡沫自流至硫泡沫槽。由硫泡沫泵送到高位硫泡沫槽，经加热后流入熔硫釜中进行熔硫。硫磺膏从熔硫釜中流出，入模后铸成固体硫磺。湿法脱硫工艺有ADA法、栲胶脱硫法等。
一般采用栲胶法，其主要是利用天然栲胶中的多羟基芳烃化合物所存在的酚式及醌式结构互变，再利用偏矾酸钠进行氧化还原来实现的。
