将40～60mm的固体原料煤通过提升设备提升到储煤仓，由程序控制的给煤设备将煤加入到两段炉内。空气鼓风机将空气鼓入炉底，同时低压蒸汽通过混合箱与空气混合作为气化剂与气化段1200℃高温的半焦进行气化反应，生成CO约为31～33％，H2约为9 ～ 10%，CH4约为0.4 ～ 0.5%的可燃气体；同时利用下段煤气的余热对干馏段的煤进行干馏，生成CO约为29 ～ 31％，H2约为17 ～ 19%，CH4约为1 ～ 3％，CnHm约为0.2 ～ 0.4％的可燃气体。干馏段产生的煤气其温度为100 ～ 150℃，由电捕焦油器捕集灰尘和焦油，然后进入间冷器冷却。从电捕焦底部出来的水和焦油被送往焦油罐。由下部气化段产生的煤气其温度大约为550～600℃，经过旋风除尘器除去大颗粒灰尘，通过风冷器降温后进入间冷器。上、下段的煤气在间冷器出口混合，混合后煤气的温度约35～40℃，经过电捕轻油器再一次捕去灰尘和轻油后，进入煤气储柜经煤气风机增压后通过煤气管线送往用气设备或直接经煤气风机增压后通过煤气管线送往用气设备。从间冷器出来的油水混合物被分别分离，轻焦油被送入轻焦油池，酚水送入酚水池。
